Idaho Firewise Appoints Mike Ward as New Executive Director

Idaho Firewise proudly announces the appointment of Mike Ward to the role of Executive Director, effective October 1, 2025. Idaho Firewise is a nonprofit organization that broadens the understanding of wildfire’s role in Idaho ecosystems and equips and motivates people in Idaho to reduce loss from wildfire.
With a proven track record of success in technical fire management and policy, Ward brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Idaho Firewise. His extensive background coordinating partnerships across Idaho positions him as an invaluable asset to the organization.
“Under the steady leadership of outgoing Executive Director Ivy Dickinson, Idaho Firewise has grown considerably in stature and capacity. We are indebted to Ivy for her years of service and passion for this work. As Mike Ward takes the reins, we will benefit from his knowledge, experiences and connections with the people and places of Idaho. We are excited to work with him to further the important work of Idaho Firewise,” said board chair Michelle Youngquist.
Ward holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources Management from the University of Montana and has a track record of delivering exceptional results in previous leadership positions, most recently with the U.S. Forest Service, where he oversaw collaborative fire management initiatives and interagency coordination.
Ward expressed enthusiasm about joining Idaho Firewise. “I am excited to be joining the Firewise Team and continuing the mission of living productively with wildfire in Idaho. Fires have become an ever-present challenge for everyone across the state, and I look forward to working with landowners, and our State and Federal partners to develop and implement projects that can broaden our knowledge of wildfire while reducing the negative impacts now and into the future.”
