May is Fire Awareness Month in Idaho
By Proclamation by the Governor of Idaho, May has been declared Wildfire Awareness Month.
Idaho Joined California, Nevada, and Oregon in their joint effort to declare May as Wildfire Awareness month in 2011. Over the years this partnership has grown considerably and has now become a solid movement, with 8 states partnering in the annual signing of the proclamation.
Idaho has many events scheduled for this May throughout the state; events that promote wildfire education and awareness events wildland/urban interface landowners and the fire departments and emergency personnel that work with them. The message? For those of us living in the fire-based ecosystems of the west, it’s not a question of IF you’ll experience a wildfire while living here, but a matter of when that will be. Wildfire preparedness saves lives and property from destruction by wildfires.
