Fire Prevention and Information

  • Embers drift from a campfire and ignite a wildfire that incinerates thousands of acres.
  • Sparks fly from a power tool being used to clear brush. The resulting fire destroys several homes.
  • A man driving on a national forest road stops on tinder-dry grass. The hot engine acts like a match, kindling a wildfire that burns thousands of acres.

Stories like these have become far too familiar in Idaho. A growing number of Idaho wildfires have a common, incriminating back story:  People caused them.

Raising awareness is the first step toward wildfire prevention. Idaho Firewise works to raise awareness about the most frequent human causes of wildfires:

  • Arson
  • Campfires
  • Cars, trucks, and trailers
  • Crop residue burning
  • Debris burning
  • Firearms
  • Fireworks
  • Smoking

Human carelessness is never acceptable. Wherever you are, don’t be a Guberif!
